Polishing

Polishing is an important part of the finishing process for your sand casting, and can be arranged as part of Foundry & Fabrication’s total solution for your aluminium casting needs. More than just a means of making your part look shiny and pleasing to the eye, polishing is a multi-staged process used by Foundry & Fabrication as an aluminium foundry and designed to rid the surface of your aluminium cast part of any imperfections, as well as removing the sort of tarnishing that certain alloys can be susceptible to ruining the look of the casting.

The process involves taking your sand castings and gravity die castings and, using an electrically driven wheel, applying compounds of varying abrasive quality to the rough surface of the newly cast part. Typically, this process is continued from more to less abrasive compounds until the desired result is reached – a smooth, even surface on a part that is exactly to specification.
